Spurs Ink Ratliff

ratliff.article.finalEarlier today the Spurs came to terms on a one-year deal for veteran’s minimum with seasoned vet Theo Ratliff. At 36-years young, the 14-year veteran Ratliff stands 6-10 and has made a career for himself as a shot blocker. An All-Star in 2001, Ratliff brings size, strength and six more fouls a game to get from our post players. It’s safe to assume that Theo will not consistently be a rotation player but rather a situational role player. Expect his minutes to spike when we play the bigger bodies in the league (i.e. Dwight Howard, Shaq, etc.) Ratliff was a key component to the Sixers run in the playoffs in 2000-01 season where they eventually lost to Kobe, Shaq and company 4-1.

As the Spurs were among the poorest in the league in terms of shot-blocking, RC Buford continues to make the right moves to address the needs of the club. It will be even easier cheering for this guy knowing that Ratliff is very active in the community and takes time, often, to give back.
