BLAH BLAH BLAH

The Mavs’ eight-game winning streak has shown how a little bit of teamwork and stellar play can result in a beautiful harmony of basketball. If you doubt that’s the case then look past the numbers and actually watch the boys play. However, as the Mavericks have tallied achievement after achievement throughout the last decade, the media has been the first to rain on the parade.

Esteemed ESPN.com writer John Hollinger uses his PER Diem formula to completely disrespect the longest current win streak in the league. His key argument is that the Maverick’s margin of victory throughout the streak is not impressive enough. KE$HA’s song “Blah Blah Blah,” has never been more applicable. Seven of our streak’s wins have been against legit playoff contenders. How can a 5.3 point margin of victory be a stain on such remarkable success? Sure I am the first to say that numbers don’t lie, but this is basketball not science. The marvel of sports is that anything can happen. It’s an integral piece to the NBA’s marketing scheme. But Hollinger attributes the Mavs’ impressive record to, “freakishly good fortune in close games.” Are you kidding me? Is there not a chance that perhaps the Mavericks know how to win the close ones? If anything, the Maverick’s “fortune” in close games should be attributed to the fact that they know how to win. A win is a win and that is true in both basketball and science.

Credit the success to the Mavs’ killer instinct. But more importantly credit it to one man who is never shy to flaunt his own killer instinct, Dirk Nowitzki. The man, the myth, the legend has averaged an incredible 29.1 points over the eight-game streak including three 30-point efforts. His performance has landed him yet another accolade for his overcrowded trophy shelf. The Western Conference Player of the Week’s back is getting a little sore. But I assure you, it is a good sore. As long as the team keeps riding on it, expect the streak to continue. The will to win is once again the key to the Mavericks success. Luckily Dirk holds it and has a capable group of co-pilots who can hold it when he errs. Until the Mavs’ barely less than average margin of victory proves to hinder them, keep on humming that awful tune, “Blah Blah Blah.”
